SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) could also be called the winter blues. People suffering this condition can feel great during the light summer months, but as soon as the nights start to draw in they become depressed, slow down and may want to eat and sleep more.If you are a sufferer, you could discuss with your GP the possibility of being referred for light treatment, which has a good success rate amongst sufferers. Obviously, try and get out into as much daylight as possible during the winter months too, and take a winter break to sunnier climes if you can manage it.
One of the most useful herbs for helping with SAD is St. John's wort.
However, if you are not able to take this herb, there are uplifting alternatives such as:
- Lemon Balm
- Damiana
- Oats
- Rosemary
- Vervain
