Pityriasis Rosea
Are there any external herbal preparations that could be applied to the skin? The herbalist writes ...
As you are probably aware, Pityriasis rosea is a self-limiting disorder of unknown cause, possibly due to an infectious agent, which will usually disappear in 6 to 8 weeks with no further problems. Herbalists treating the condition may investigate food sensitivity, or support the immune system using internal and external treatments. Externally, any of the following may be helpful to soothe the skin and reduce itching whilst waiting for the rash to resolve:Rose, lavender and chamomile cream has good anti-inflammatory properties. It also contains liquorice which acts like a natural steroid without the problems of topical steroid creams.
Echinacea cream may also be helpful, especially due to its anti-viral and antibiotic properties. It may be mixed with the above.
Comfrey or marigold (calendula) oil may be used as a base oil for any essential oils you may want to apply.
The aromatherapist writes ...
Eucalyptus, Ho Leaf and Palma Rosa are all useful anti-viral oils and could be used by adding 6 drops to a lukewarm bath, or by being diluted in Calendula oil and applied direct to the affected area. Dilution should be 5 drops of essential oil to 20 ml Calendula oil. Alternatively, Chamomile Roman is a great oil for general skin conditions. This also needs to be diluted 5 drops into 20ml of Calendula.
