Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD)
I have heard that False Unicorn Root can help PCOD, but I can't get find anyone who is selling it. Why can't I buy it and what other herbs would help? The herbalist writes ...
PCOD is always best treated by a practitioner - there is no one herbal formula that will work for all women, and treatment may best be tailored to your needs by seeing a practitioner who can also work on diet and lifestyle. Women affected by PCOD often have different hormonal profiles and varying symptoms, and this needs to be taken into consideration. You can visit the website of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists to find a herbalist near you.The False Unicorn root is not really essential and is not stocked by Artemis because it is endangered in the wild. Cultivated supplies are very hard to come by as it does not grow well outside of specific habitats. White peony does however work in a similar way to False Unicorn root, and is often combined with liquorice (but do check contra-indications). Chinese angelica can also help to restore periods. Damiana is often helpful for excess androgens which cause acne and hirsutism.
