Closely related to barberry, this bitter herb stimulates the gallbladder and liver and is used for a variety of skin problems, especially where a 'sluggish' liver is suspected. It is strongly antibacterial and is also used long-term for treating psoriasis.
Avoid during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Seek advice if suffering from gallstones and avoid in obstructive gallbladder disease.
